From my summer holidays at my dad’s factory I learned important lessons about energy reduction.
My dad used to tell everyone “if something is not being used switch it off”. If I was moving a pallet
of goods on a fork lift truck one way, he always tried to make me move a pallet the other way.
What my dad was attempting to do back in the 80’s was to save costs. I added speed and customer
service. I set service level agreements that phones would be answered within three rings, enquiries
would be returned within 20 minutes and product would be delivered within 24 hours nationwide.
We were very successful. Having grown up with energy saving fundementals, I adding my degree
and continued my training in energy reduction – (I was the BRE’s 25th person in the country to
qualify for EPC provision) – I am happy to support Carbon Consultancy Company delivery energy
efficiency and low and zero carbon technologies to our clients.

I am proud of the achievements of Carbon Consultancy Company. From installing LED lighting to
cut energy costs by £20,000 per annum to installing CHP equipment saving £200,000 per annum.

I am proud of the holistic approach our team take. If they are providing an Energy Performance
Certificate our surveyors are looking for ‘low hanging fruit’ savings on energy to help the client
moving forward. I am particularly proud of the feedback and testimonials we get on our speed and
accuracy.

What started as helping a few businesses to reduce cost has grown to helping create strategies to
lower CO2 and use this to improve businesses for them to gain more business. Take for example
our work with landlords. In economically challenging times such as these, our landlord clients are
offering 12 month’s rent free to get a tenant to sign for a further term at the property resulting in
the landlord loosing significant income. Our strategies to lower running costs for their tenant for the
next term have led to tenants being happy to continue paying rent because of the annual savings
they make on energy. Both landlord and tenant are happy!

Take for example the work we have done with our clients on CRC. By quickly grasping the
legislation, we have been able to strategise for clients to remove them from CRC obligations saving
them thousands of pounds and we have done that by significantly cutting energy reduction. This has
led to lots of smiley faces around the boardroom table and further instructions for us.

We will continue to listen to our clients and provide further services, like for instance our SBEM
calculations on the arrival of Part L in 2010. Our contractor clients asked us for help to build in a
more sustainable way and look for the least cost route to satisfy building regulations. We have the
knowledge and can assist massively in this area. We have gone on to help with product specification
and BREEAM services, all in a day’s work.

Personally I sit on a Carbon Reduction board, I am trustee of a charity helping orphans in Malawi and
I am particularly interested in building sustainably – Currently my property company is building the
